Church of the Protection of the Holy Virgin
Zhukivka village, Kyiv region
This is the only preserved church in Kyiv region, built in the pseudo-Russian style. Not so long ago, I searched the Internet for a photo of Mykola Dmytrashko-Raich, who was the architect of this building. He built it in 1901-1902 as a family estate, with the aim of eventually becoming a burial place.
Mykola Dmytrashko-Raich himself was a leader of the nobility, remember, this status was mentioned in “12 Chairs”. So, the land was his, he built himself a house, and architecturally it was similar to the Moscow- Yaroslavl architecture of the 17th century. Then revolution, war, another war. The bathhouse was broken, and now this building looks like in the photo. We haven’t been inside yet, as it’s always closed. But soon we will find a supervisor and capture the interior.
Zhukivka is 12 km away from us. You can also bike here, we have included this location in the cycling route as well. Of course, Supii knows this whole story. And that is why we investigate it. I sincerely hope that our company (together with you) will one day become so powerful that we will be able to undertake the restoration of such buildings, research their history, find old photos and preserve such monuments. Here’s the thing.
